ABT Sportsline - 112 years of power and innovation
112 years ago, Johann Abt from Kempten founded a blacksmith’s with a famous idea: to convert carriages, so that they could even be used in the harsh Allgäu winter. Since the time of its foundation the company has continued to develop and even maintained this policy in hart times. In the meantime the fourth generation of the company are now in charge with Hans-Jürgen and his brother, the former DTM pilot Christian Abt. Both general managers are also successfully focussing on growth, even in this year of crisis for the automobile industry, and have, for example, founded ABT ASIA Ltd., a subsidiary which actively looks after the South-East Asian region. New showrooms, amongst other places in Dubai, Hungary and Poland, are also signs of this expansion policy, which the largest tuner of Volkswagen vehicles in the world is pursuing.
Innovation and constantly increasing know-how ensure that ABT Sportsline is able to set trends. “It is vitally important for our company to be able to adjust to the ever-changing conditions as quickly as possible, or even better to anticipate them”, says Hans-Jürgen Abt. As a result, the company from Allgäu continues to invest in its own capabilities: the best example is the highly-modern performance test station, practically unique in Germany, which raises engine development to a new level. The engineers prove that the company is able to build precision high-performance equipment, with, amongst other things, the ABT turbo chargers and compressors. ABT also takes ecological and economical changes into account, for example with their continuous down-sizing strategy, with which smaller engines provide the performance of the next sized unit. This keeps costs down for the customers, and still offers pure enjoyment on the road. Vehicles and individual components from ABT are characterised by maximum quality and are completely suitable for everyday use. Consequently the normal guarantee of mass produced cars is not affected and even with used cars a guarantee is provided for the increase in performance. The quality of the bodywork components is verified by the pedestrian impact protection tests, which ABT was the first company in the industry to successfully pass.
In 2009 ABT Sportsline also has a very interesting product range ready: with the new Golf VI the focus is on a car, whose predecessor has already been successfully tuned by ABT. In addition the Scirocco is coming back – cars of this name have always had the three-lettered logo on them. On top of that another SUV highlight with the Q5 and an especially dynamic version of the ABT AS5 with the AS5-R will come on the market. Successful creations of 2008, such as the AS4, AS5, Tiguan, R8 or RS6 will also create a furore in the coming year.
